Canada are the Davis Cup by Ratuken champions for the first time in their history after a fantastic week of tennis by Felix Auger-Aliasimme.

World No.6 Auger-Aliasimme won the singles and doubles clashes against Italy to help Canada advance to the championship match.

The Canadian contingent began the clash on a positive note as Denis Shapovalov secured a straight-sets 6-2, 6-4 victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia in the opening match to gain a 1-0 lead for Canada.

Denis Shapovalov said, "It helped me being in the final before against Spain in 2019. Last time it was all kind of new, we were relieved just to be there, but today we're very much going for the trophy."

The 23-year-old Canadian was strong throughout the clash. He could easily read his Australian opponent's service games and broke his serve four times to win the clash after one hour and 30 minutes of play.

Next up in the second round was Auger-Aliasimme, who spearheaded Canada's campaign at the Davis Cup.

The 22-year-old Canadian defeated World No.24 Alex de Minaur in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to seal the victory for Canada.

After the victory, Vasek Pospisil said, "We have been dreaming about this for several years. To be here as World Champions, I am speechless. These guys are not kids anymore. They have been crushing it. You can't win this event without tremendous team chemistry, and all these guys represent exactly that."

Felix Auger-Aliasimme is ending his breakout season on the ATP Tour with a win-loss record of 60-27. He has won four singles tour-level titles and led Canada to their first-ever Davis Cup title victory this season.
