Football Transfer News: Why Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi left ?

After talking to teammate Kai Havertz about his need for increased playing time, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has signed a season-long loan with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen

Even though Hudson-Odoi will finish the 2022-23 season with Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea allegedly has the option to recall him in January.

The 21-year-old winger has fallen out of favour with Thomas Tuchel and has been a substitute in Chelsea's last three Premier League games.

Since making his Chelsea debut in 2018, Hudson-Odoi has battled numerous injuries, the most significant of which being an Achilles' tendon injury that kept him out of action for five months.

The dynamic 21-year-old left Stamford Bridge after failing to play a single minute for his parent club during the first few weeks of the Premier League season.

Since Chelsea's FA Cup victory over Luton Town at the beginning of March, he has not played for the club.

He has left the familiar surroundings of west London in search of fresh challenges in the Bundesliga.

Hudson-Odoi has a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge that keeps him under club control until the summer of 2024, and he may yet be welcomed back into the fold.

Hudson-Odoi opens up on the move

"The move to Germany is really exciting for me and I can play in the Champions League with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. That combination is really attractive and I'm keen to get to know the club, the fans and the Bundesliga. Kai Havertz only had good things to say about it to me in the Chelsea dressing room," Hudson-Choi told the Leverkusen's officials.

While discussing Leverkusen's interest in him, Hudson-Odoi spoke with Havertz, his teammate at Chelsea. She made 150 appearances for the Bundesliga club before being transferred to Chelsea for £70 million last summer.

After signing him after Karim Bellarabi and Amine Adli were injured, Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes praised the new player.

A speedy and penetrative winger in Callum Hudson-Odoi, he remarked. His power is to aid us immediately because he has all he needs.

Since breaking into the Chelsea first team from the club's youth system, he has played in 126 games (in all competitions) and contributed 16 goals and 22 assists.

The fact that he started only 11 league matches last season significantly influenced his decision to sign with Bayer Leverkusen out of a field of 19 suitors.

Bayer Leverkusen, who placed third in the Bundesliga last year, will compete in the Champions League's Group B alongside Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, and Porto.

After losing their last three games in a row, Leverkusen is in 13th place in the Bundesliga.

With a berth in the World Cup on the line, Hudson-Odoi must see consistent playing time. He has a chance to reclaim his spot in England's lineup if he continues to play well, and he can still represent Ghana on the international stage if he chooses to do so.
