Lockie Ferguson was born on 13 June 1991 in Auckland, New Zealand. His father's name is Doug Ferguson and his mother's name is Jan Ferguson. He did his schooling at Auckland Grammar School. In his school days, he won the national school's fast bowling competition in 2008.

In November 2016, he was added to New Zealand's One Day squad for their series against Australia and made his ODI debut for New Zealand on 4 December 2016. He made his T20 International debut against Bangladesh on 3 January 2017. He has played 37 ODIs and 15 T20 matches for New Zealand so far.
