Quinton de Kock insists South Africa batters haven't yet achieved anything at Cricket World Cup
Quinton de Kock insists South Africa's batters will need to keep their feet firmly on the ground at the World Cup as they gear up to face Australia in Lucknow.
The wicketkeeper-batter was one of three centurions as the Proteas broke all sorts of batting records in their 102-run victory over Sri Lanka in their tournament opener in Delhi.
South Africa's top six is regarded as one of the most fearsome in world cricket but De Kock revealed they will need to be more consistent and win tight matches at the global event to be considered as the best.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the clash against the Aussies, De Kock said: "It's only one game into the World Cup, so it's hard to say how we're really going.
"Even though we've had it really well our last couple of games, it hasn't been over a course of years. It's only been over the course of a month or a couple of months.
"So yeah, I think in order for us to be the best we need to be, we still need to be a bit more consistent, especially in tight games like World Cups. And yeah, that will determine actually how good we are."
Australia went down by six wickets to hosts India in their opening game of the World Cup and De Kock is expecting another fierce battle between the Southern Hemisphere rivals.
The teams clashed in a five-match series in South Africa just before the tournament with the Proteas coming back from 2-0 down to seal a 3-2 victory.
"Both teams are strong teams, and both have got big egos. Both want to win, want to beat each other," said gloveman.
"So I think that's what it just comes down to. Whoever comes out and makes the best decisions in the biggest pressure situation will probably be the winner at the end of the day."
