Origin of the club
The formation of Surrey County Cricket Club took place on August 18, 1845, following a meeting at the Horns Tavern in Kennington, South London. The foundation of the club was finalized when a motion by William Denison stating “that a Surrey club be now formed” was approved by over 100 representatives from the county of Surrey.
Middlesex played their maiden first-class match against Marylebone Cricket Club at the Oval in 1846.
Surrey in Vitality Blast
Surrey County Cricket Club has been competing in the Vitality Blast (The T20 Blast) since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2003. The club won the first edition of the tournament in 2003 after winning the final against Warwickshire Bears at Trent Bridge in Nottingham by nine wickets. They made it to the finals of the tournament three more times in 2004, 2013 and 2021.
Achievements
Surrey won the maiden County Championship in 1890 and has won the tournament a total of 19 times, including seven consecutive titles from 1952 to 1958.
