Somerset County Cricket Club is a first-class county
Origin of the club
The formation of Somerset County Cricket Club took place in August 1875. The foundation took place after a match between cricketers from Somerset and Devon won by Somerset. The original idea was to not have a fixed home ground for the club but play in different clubs around the historic county of Somerset. They leased the County Ground in Taunton in 1982 for ten years, following which they officially bought the ground.
Somerset played their maiden first-class match against Lancashire at Old Trafford in 1882.

They made it to the finals again in 2021 but lost to Kent Spitfires by 25 runs.
