Origin of the club
Teams from Kent have played first-class cricket since the 18th century and the first club to represent the county was formed in 1842. The formation of Kent County Cricket Club took place on December 6, 1870, after the merger of two separate teams representing the county. The club has played in almost all top-level domestic events in England and has participated in the County Championship since the inaugural edition in 1890. The first recorded match played by Kent was at Town Malling in 1705 and their first-class debut was made at the All England tournament at Bromley in 1842.
Kent Spitfires in Vitality Blast
Kent Spitfires have been competing in the Vitality Blast (The T20 Blast) since the first edition of the tournament in 2003. They won the tournament twice. First time in 2007 after winning the final against Gloucestershire Gladiators at Edgbaston Cricket Ground by four wickets and the second time in 2021 after defeating Somerset with 25 runs. They made it to the final in 2008 but lost to Middlesex Crusaders by three runs.
