Origin of the club
The formation of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club took place on November 4, 1870, following the efforts of Walter Boden at a meeting held in Guildhall, Derby. The founding members of the club included the Earl of Chesterfield, who was the first president of the club, G. H. Strutt and first-class cricketer Henry Boden.
Derbyshire County Cricket Club played their maiden first-class match against Lancashire at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on 26-27 May in 1871. The club enjoyed great success in the early seasons, which was followed by a run of disastrous results.
Derbyshire County Cricket Club in Vitality Blast
Derbyshire County Cricket Club has been competing in the Vitality Blast (The T20 Blast) since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2003. They compete in the limited-overs matches under the name Derbyshire Falcons. Previously, the team was known as Derbyshire Scorpions till 2005 and Derbyshire Phantoms until 2010. Despite competing in the tournament since its maiden edition, Derbyshire has never won the T20 Blast. However, they reached the semifinals once in 2019, where they lost to Essex Eagles by 34 runs.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club has enjoyed a record attendance of 24,00 at their home ground during the 2017 T20 Blast.
