Shikhar Dhawan was born in Delhi on December 5, 1985, to Sunaina and Mahendra Pal Dhawan. He grew up in Delhi and did his schooling at St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School. He started honing his cricket skills at the age of 12 at the Sonnet Club under the guidance of his coach, Tarak Sinha.
Dhawan started his career early and played for Delhi’s U16 team at the age of 14. In the 2000-01 Vijay Merchant Trophy, he was the top scorer with 755 runs from nine innings with an average of 83.3 runs. This included two centuries with a top score of 199.
Shikhar Dhawan made his international cricket debut in an ODI match against Australia on October 20, 2010, but could not find a permanent place in the team.
He was selected for the Indian Test team in February 2013 to play against Australia and provided great performances, so much so that he was also named ESPN Cricinfo's Best Test Batting Performance of 2013. Later on, he had some struggles with form but was recalled to the national team for the Champions Trophy in 2017 after showing a strong performance in domestic cricket.
As of March 7, 2022, in a career spanning 149 ODI matches, he has scored 6,284 runs with an average of 45.5 and a strike rate of 93.4. In Test cricket, he has played 34 matches and scored 2,315 runs with an average of 40.6 and a strike rate just shy of 67. In T20I cricket, he has played 68 matches, scoring 1,759 runs with an average of 27.9 and a strike rate of 126.4.
He is the fastest batsman to reach 1,000 runs in ICC tournaments and the only player to get two consecutive golden bats at the ICC Champions Trophy.

Shikhar Dhawan began his IPL journey in 2008 with Delhi Daredevils and is one of the few players to have been continuously playing in the IPL since its inception.
He was picked by Mumbai Indians in 2009 for two consecutive IPL seasons. After that, he played two seasons for the Deccan Chargers before he was acquired by Hyderabad Sunrisers in 2012. He was also the captain of the team for 2013’s IPL season, before being replaced by Darren Sammy in 2014. From 2014 to 2018, he played for Hyderabad Sunrisers, but in 2019, he was traded to Delhi Capitals and remained with them until 2021.
Ahead of the 2022 tournament, he has played 192 IPL matches, scoring 5,784 runs with an average score of 34.8 and a strike rate of 126.6. He is the only batsman in the IPL to score a century in two consecutive matches.
It has been confirmed that he has been bought by Punjab Kings for INR8.25 crore during the 2022 Indian Premier League auction.
He is the ninth player to score a century in his 100th match in ODI cricket (109 against South Africa in Johannesburg).

He scored a century on his maiden international Test match against Australia in Mohali, knocking out 187 runs from 174 balls.
He has gotten 100 and a duck in a single match, scoring zero in the first innings and 115 in the second innings against New Zealand on February 6, 2014.
He has the highest runs scored by a batsman in T20I in a calendar year, racking up 689 T20I runs in 2018.
In 2021, he received the Arjuna Award from the government of India in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sports.
He also won Wisdom Cricketer of the Year 2014.
Shikhar Dhawan is currently unmarried. He was married to Aesha Mukerji, a Melbourne based kickboxer, but they got divorced in September 2021. The couple were blessed with a son named Zoravar in December 2014. He also adopted her two daughters, Aliyah and Rhea, from her previous marriage. He has been living in Clyde North with his family since 2015.
