Jonny Bairstow is an English cricketer. He plays for Yorkshire in domestic cricket and represents the England national team across all three formats. He will play for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.
Jonny Bairstow was born in a cricketing family on September 26, 1989, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. His father, David Bairstow, was a former cricketer who played for Yorkshire and the England national team. His elder brother Andrew Bairstow is also a former cricketer, who played for Derbyshire.
Jonny Bairstow used to play rugby, hockey and football for seven years before deciding to focus on cricket. He received the Young Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year award for scoring 654 runs at St Peter's School in York.
Jonny Bairstow began his international cricket journey in 2011. He made his ODI debut against India at Cardiff on September 16, and put in an astonishing performance, scoring 41 runs off 21 balls. He was awarded man of the match as a result. A week later, he made his T20I debut against the West Indies at the Oval.
Another memorable performance came against South Africa in the 2012 Lord’s Test where he knocked out 95 runs when England were struggling with a score of 54/4.
He played for England during the 2012 ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka as well as during the 2013 Ashes series at the sixth batting position. He made scores of 37 and 15 in the first Test, while in the second Test, he scored 67 and 20 runs across the two innings respectively to help England gain a 2-0 lead in the series. He also played in the 2014 Ashes series.
He was out of the England team for the next 18 months, but came back during the fifth ODI in England's tour of New Zealand after Jos Butler got injured. He scored 83 runs from 60 balls, as well as securing two catches and a stumping to help England win the match.
He has been a regular part of England’s international squad across all three formats since then. He has been dropping strong performances consistently and has become the backbone of England’s middle order.
As of March 7, 2022, he has played 89 ODI matches and scored 3,498 runs at an average score of almost 48 with a strike rate of 105. In his Test career, he has scored 4,575 runs with an average of 34.1 runs in 80 matches. In 63 T20I matches, he has scored 1,190 runs at an average of 26.8 and a strike rate of 135.8.

Jonny Bairstow began his IPL journey in 2019 after being bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad. He made history by becoming the highest run-scorer in his debut season with 445 runs, which included one century and two half-centuries.
Ahead of the 2022 IPL campaign, he has played 28 IPL matches, scoring 1,038 runs with an average of 41.5 and a strike rate of 142.2, including one century and seven half-centuries.
