IPL 2022, Playoffs: Top 4 bowlers expected to make an impact
After 70 matches played so far, we are heading towards the Indian Premier League playoffs
We saw many stunning performances throughout the season, leaving us in complete awe. Many players gave their best, and new young guns flourished in this cash-rich league. We have seen many great bowling displays, some by experienced ones and some by youngsters. Out of these many outstanding bowlers, we will see few of them performing for their franchises in the playoffs. Let us look at four of these bowlers to watch out for in the playoffs of the world’s greatest T2 league!
Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals)
With his top-quality bowling, purple cap holder Yuzvendra Chahal crushes batters with his stunning deliveries. In this season so far, Chahal has clinched 26 wickets with an outstanding average of 16.54 and an efficient economy of just 7.68 in the 14 matches he played. Chahal is in good form this season, as in the previous five games, the leg spinner has clinched seven wickets. He also holds one hat trick this season with the purple cap, which he clichéd against KKR. This bowler will surely be an essential asset to look out for in the playoffs, and we can hope for some action from the wrist spinner.
Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans)
The Afghanistan leg spinner, Rashid Khan, is yet to deliver with his full potential in the tournament. However, the right arm leg break bowler was the pick of the bowlers in the previous game with a two-wicket haul and played a quickfire cameo down the order. He is one of the most reliable bowlers in the short format. His stump-to-stump line is what keeps the batters silent. This season, Rashid has bagged 18 wickets with an average of 21.5 and an appreciable economy rate of just 6.95, turning him into one of the most efficient bowlers. Rashid is also the leading wicket-taker for his franchise and is in 6th place in the purple cap list. It will be an incredible sight to watch this spin wizard doing his magic in the playoffs, and we can hope for some action from the spinner.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Hasaranga will likely play a key role in RCB’s dream of lifting their maiden IPL trophy. The Sri Lankan leg spinner was bagged at a hefty price by the Royal Challengers at the mega auction, and Hasaranga has brilliantly justified this pick of RCB with his fabulous bowling display in the tournament till now. The right arm leg break bowler has clinched 24 wickets at a stunning average of 15.08 and an economy of 7.39 and is just two scalps being Chahal, the highest wicket-taker this season. After the 14 matches, Hasaranga is the leading wicket-taker for RCB this season and among the prime contenders for the purple cap. Hasaranga is amongst the few players that will rule the playoffs with their performance.
Avesh Khan (Lucknow Super Giants)
The young Indian uncapped bowler has left everyone stunned with his bowling performance in the current edition. Despite not having much experience, the youngster has shown great maturity in his bowling and is amongst the best bowlers this season. He is the leading wicket-taker for Lucknow Super Giants, leaving many experienced bowlers behind. In the league stage, Avesh has picked 17 wickets at an average of 21.8 and an economy rate of 8.5, which is quite appreciable for a youngster like him. His ability to generate extra bounce off the length and how he swings make the pacer dangerous for the opponents. Avesh will be one of the critical assets for LSG to win their trophy in their first season of this tournament.
