Wimbledon: Stefanos Tsitsipas sets blockbuster clash with Nick Kyrgios, fined for “spitgate”
Nick Kyrgios won against Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 on June 30 to advance to the third round at Wimbledon. He was later fined $10,000 for his conduct in his opening match
Nick Kyrgios completely dominated Filip Krajinovic in one of his best performances to advance to the third round at Wimbledon for the sixth time. He found his rhythm early in the game and held for love before immediately breaking his Serbian opponent. The Australian fired 21 aces, won 93% of the points on the first serve and did not face even one break point to seal his victory after one hour and 25 minutes of play.
The victory improved the win-loss record of Nick Kyrgios against Filip Krajinovicto 2-0 as the Australian enjoys a grass-court solid season.
In an on-court interview, Nick Kyrgios said, "I want to remind people that I am pretty good. This is the tournament I circle on my calendar, which I look forward to all year. It is the Grand Slam where I have the best opportunity.
Nick Kyrgios is involved in controversy once again as the Australian by his admission spat in the direction of fans whom he accused of being disrespectful in the opening round of Wimbledon. His behaviour has been described as foolish by several British newspapers.
The Australian is currently under investigation for the spitting incident. He called the lineswoman who reported his behaviour to the umpire a 'snitch.'
Nick Kyrgios said, "There was nothing the media possibly could tell me I did wrong today. I know you cannot possibly ask me anything and stir anything up. And I love it because then you can not write anything. What are you going to say? Nothing today dumbfounded all of you.
World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas won against Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in the second Wimbledon 2022 at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England, on June 30.
Stefanos Tsitsipas came well prepared, having won the trophy at Mallorca last week. The 23-year-old Greek dictated the movement of Jordan Thompson with his baseline play on Court 1. He controlled the game with his forehand and demonstrated great footwork to outmanoeuvre his Australian opponent, winning the first two sets with a comfortable margin.
Jordan Thompson offered some resistance to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third set, but the Greek gained a decisive break to seal his victory after two hours and four minutes of play. Stefanos Tsitsipas broke the Australian six times and fired 29 winners to improve his win-loss record on the grass-court for the season to 8-2.
In an on-court interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas said, "Last year was a different story [compared] to this year. I was not that involved with my movement behind the ball. It is great to see that evolution this year. I feel grass suits my game perfectly. I am happy when I see the level of tennis I played today. As long as everything works, I am happy to know where that will lead me.
Stefanos Tstitsipas will face Nick Kyrgios in a third-round faceoff at Wimbledon on July 2.
