Alizé Cornet of France advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time since 2014 with a straight-set victory. It was her first victory against a World No. 1 player since beating Serena Williams 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The defeat handed Iga Swiatek her first loss in four months to break her winning streak at 37 matches.

Alize Cornet is having a good season and advanced to her first significant quarterfinal earlier this year at the Australian Open. The 32-year-old Frenchwoman has also tied Ai Sugiyama's record for the most consecutive Grand Slams played at 62.

Iga Swiatek looks almost unbeatable on hard courts and clay but has not won against a Top 50 player on grass courts. Alizé Cornet raced to a quick 3-0 lead on the back of two early breaks in the opening set. Iga Swiatek broke Alize Cornet in the fourth game but fell behind again, losing the first set 6-4. The Polish sensation made 17 unforced errors in the opener compared to just five by her French opponent.

While talking about her experience playing on grass courts, Iga Swiatek said, "I tried many things to feel better on a grass court, but it didn't work out. That's why I'm not even hard on myself because it's kind of logic that if I couldn't find it even in practice, I would not see it in a match.

Iga Swiatek had a much better start to the second set as she raced to a 2-0, but she soon faltered due to multiple unforced errors. Alize Cornet won six consecutive games to pull off a second reversal, sealing a straight-set victory after one hour and 33 minutes of play.

In a post-match interview, Alize Cornet said, "It's an enormous pride for me to win this match against Iga. I mean, what she's done this year is out of this world, and I can't believe I'm the one that broke the streak. It is amazing. I'm thrilled to be in the second week again for the second time.

Alizé Cornet will lock horns with Ajla Tomljanović of Australia for a quarterfinal berth on July 4.

Petra Martic rides a wave of upsets to beat Jessica Pegula

Eighth seed Jessica Pegula was knocked out of Wimbledon by World No. 80 Petra Martic third-round clash at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England, on July 2.

Petra Martic will face Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the fourth round of Wimbledon on July 4. Elena Rybakina advanced to the Last 16 after beating teenager Zheng Qinwen of China 7-6(4), 7-5 to secure a straight-set victory after just under two hours of play.
