Wimbledon News: Novak Djokovic ends Cameron Norrie's run to reach the final against Nick Kyrgios
Top seed Novak Djokovic cruised past Cameron Norrie of Great Britain 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the final at Wimbledon on July 8 as he aims to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title
British No. 1 Cameron Norrie settled on the court early in the game and dominated the opening set. He broke the serve of Novak Djokovic three times and fired a barrage of accurate topspin forehand winners to clinch the first set 2-6. However, Novak Djokovic turned the tables in the second set with increased intensity and excellent service games to win the second set.
World No. 3 Novak Djokovic carried on with his aggressive playstyle in the third set, taking advantage of the reduction in the depth and power of groundstrokes fired by Cameron Norrie. He fired nine winners to just four unfocused errors in the third set before sealing his victory in the fourth set after a decisive break.
In a post-match interview, Novak Djokovic said, "I did not start well. He was the better player for the first set. I have had many semifinals at Grand Slams before, but walking out onto the court is never easy. You have a lot of pressure and expectation from yourself and others. Cameron did not have much to lose. He is playing the tournament of his life. Playing at home is never easy, but I wish him all the best. He is a great player. I have a lot of respect for him.
It was the first time ninth seed Cameron Norrie advanced beyond the third round at Wimbledon. The four-time tour-level Titleist displayed several excellent performances to beat Pablo Andujar, Jaume Munar, Steve Johnson and Tommy Paul en route to the semifinal.
Home hope Cameron Norrie is the fourth British man to advance to the semifinal at Wimbledon, joining the likes of Andy Murray, Tim Henman, and Roger Taylor. Novak Djokovic once lost to a British man at Wimbledon against former World No. 1 Andy Murray in the 2013 Wimbledon final.
The victory improved the win-loss record of Novak Djokovic against Cameron Norrie to 2-0 and extended his win streak at Wimbledon to 27 consecutive matches. The 35-year-old Serb has advanced to the final at Grand Slam for the 32nd time, making him the sole owner of the record for the maximum number of Grand Slam finals, one match ahead of Roger Federer(31).
Novak Djokovic will lock horns with Nick Kyrgos of Australia in the championship match of Wimbledon as he bids to win his fourth consecutive and seventh overall title at Wimbledon.
