US Open quarter-finals by the numbers
There are just eight players left at the 2023 US Open in New York.
Now that the semi-finals are set in both the men's and women's singles draws, usopen.org is tallying up the numbers through the quarter-finals.
1: Teenager in the semifinals in New York - 19-year-old Coco Gauff.
2: Number of 20-year-olds in the men’s semifinals in Flushing Meadows: Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton.
3: Number of Americans that reached the US Open semifinals in singles – Shelton, Gauff and Madison Keys. Three is also the number of former US Open champions remaining in either draw: Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.
4: Number of former Grand Slam champions that are into the semifinals in New York: Alcaraz, Djokovic, Medvedev, Aryna Sabalenka.
5: Number of matches Medvedev has lost at the US Open, against 28 victories.
6: Number of hours that Aryna Sabalenka has spent on court through five rounds at the US Open. She has won all ten sets she played.
7-0: Sabalenka is undefeated in Grand Slam quarterfinals – seven up, seven down.
8: Of the eight singles semifinalists, only Shelton – World No.47 – is unseeded.
9: Andrey Rublev falls to 0-9 lifetime in Grand Slam quarterfinals with his Day 10 loss to Medvedev.
10: Gauff stretched her career-best winning streak to 10, reaching the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jelena Ostapenko.
11: Taylor Fritz is 0-11 vs. the Top 10 at the majors. The American’s tough luck against the elite continued on Tuesday as he fell to Djokovic in straight sets.
12: Alcaraz’s current US Open winning streak. The defending champ is into the semifinals after his straight-set win over Alexander Zverev on Day 10.
13: Djokovic is 13-0 in US Open quarterfinals, and 47-10 in Grand Slam quarterfinals.
14: Number of return winners struck by Keys through five matches, which leads all players – male or female.
15: Number of times that Karolina Muchova has attempted serve-and-volley at the US Open. The Czech used the tactic more than any other woman and won 8 of 15 points. Ben Shelton has served-and-volleyed 47 times, most among all men, and won 34 of those points (72 percent).
16-1: Gauff’s record in her last 17 matches. She faces Muchova in the semifinals on Thursday.

19: Gauff, who turned 19 in March, is the only teenager remaining in either singles draw at the US Open. 13 teenagers started in the main draw across the men’s and women’s singles events.
21: Sabalenka has lost just 21 games through five rounds.
22-2: Sabalenka’s record at the Grand Slams in 2022. She’s reached at least the semis at all four Slams.

62: Percent of return games won by Sabalenka, which leads all players. Medvedev leads all men with 49 percent.
64: Djokovic has won 64 of his second-serve return points, more than any other male player through five rounds.
76: Shelton is the US Open ace leader through five rounds with 76.

149: The fastest serve struck through the first five rounds was hit by Shelton during his round of 16 win over Tommy Paul.
1992: 20-year-old Shelton is the youngest American to reach a US Open semifinal since Michael Chang in 1992.
2001: By defeating Ostapenko in the quarterfinals, Gauff becomes the first American teenager to reach the US Open semifinals since Serena Williams in 2001.
2016: Sabalenka is the first woman to reach the semifinals at all four majors in a single season since Serena Williams in 2016.
