As top players prepare to bring their best forms on the court, here is a list of five women who could clinch this year's US Open title.

    Jessica Pegula

Although she isn't the most famous player on the WTA tour, Jessica Pegula has been leaving remarkable records over the last few seasons, especially the current year,

She is currently ranked eighth in the world and is the top American seed. The 28-year-old is also the third in the race to advance to the elite WTA Finals at the season's end.

Currently, she is behind world number one Iga Swiatek and Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur. Pegula became a quarter-finalist in a Slam on three occasions, two of which arrived in 2022.

Pegula would not be meeting a player ranked higher than her before the quarter-finals in New York due to her rank.

    Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff, who has turned heads by becoming a runner-up in the French Open this year, will be on everyone's radar. She entered the finals, where she lost to number one Swiatek at just 18 years of age.

She currently stands fifth in the WTA race and is the only teenager named in the top 25 in contention to advance to the 2022 WTA Finals. She will enter the tournament as the 12th seed in New York.

She will seek to become the youngest US Open champion since 17-year-old Serena Williams won the title in 1999.

    Madison Keys

27-year-old Keys was a US Open finalist in 2017, where she lost to fellow American Sloane Stephens, who became the latest American player, to clinch the singles title in New York.

Keys has been world number seven, but as of now, she will attempt to rise from the 20th rank by making a good run in the US Open after entering the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open this year.

    Amanda Anisimova

20-year-old Anisimova has been a junior US Open titlist after defeating Coco Gauff in the summit clash of the 2017 event.

Although she has never made it to the second week of Flushing Meadows, the world number 24 registered her best Major performance in 2019 by becoming the quarter-finalist at Wimbledon in July.

    Serena Williams

Serena Williams, who is 40 years old, has competed in just four singles matches a year before her last Grand Slam in New York.

However, the 23-time Grand Slam winner still has support from everyone regardless of the event she competes in. If she wins the tournament, Serena would have sealed a gap of 23 years between her first and last Slam victories after winning her first Major at the 1999 edition.
