Carlos Alcaraz survived round three after beating Jenson Brooksby 6-3 6-3 6-3. The Spaniard easily won the first two sets at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and canceled Brooksby's efforts early into the third set
The Spaniard won six consecutive games to fight a double-break deficit from 0-3 and clinch a victory in two hours 11 minutes.
"I played really, really well," quipped Alcaraz in his on-court exchange. "High level, high intensity, I knew that it was going to be a tough match. Brooksby is a really tough opponent, but I'm really happy with my performance today and I'm going to keep going."
Alcaraz was aggressive in his first tour-level clash against the 21-year-old Brooksby. The Spaniard crushed the American's defences to break his opponent in the sixth game of the opening set.
In the second set, he secured three breaks of serve, which alarmed Brooksby as he switched up his game and counter-broke twice to set up a 3-0 lead.
Alcaraz raised his level again and secured his 47th tour-level win of 2022. The 19-year-old Alcaraz has now become the youngest male player to enter the fourth round at the Flushing Meadows in successive seasons since American Pete Sampras in 1989-90.
The Spaniard will now encounter 15th seed Marin Cilic in round four.
