World No. 45 Caroline Garcia of France won against Jasmine Paolini of Italy 6-1, 6-2 in a semifinal clash of the BNP Paribas Poland Open at Legia Tenis & Golf in Warsaw, Poland
Fifth seed Caroline Garcia dominated throughout the match to beat her 10th seeded Italian opponent in straight sets after just one hour and five minutes of play on the clay court in Warsaw.
Caroline Garcia continued with her hot form after beating World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. The victory against Paolini means that the Frenchwoman has now won 17 of her last 20 matches, including the title at Bad Homburg and a run to the fourth round of Wimbledon.
In a post-match interview, Caroline Garcia said, "It’s been a challenging week, especially today, with the big win yesterday, only a couple of hours to recover and be ready. Conditions were very difficult, with a lot of rain. I am just very happy with the way I played. I stayed very focused on the present, and it paid off."
Caroline Garcia served six aces, won 74% of the points on the first serve and broke the serve of World No. 58 Jasmine Paolini four times from eight opportunities to book a championship clash with Ana Bogdan of Romania. In contrast, the 26-year-old Italian served one ace, won 60% of the points on the first serve and committed three double faults.
Ana Bogdan advanced to her maiden ATP tour-level final after beating Kateryna Baindl of Ukraine 7-5, 7-5 after a hard-fought clash. It was the first semifinal victory for Ana Bogdan and improved her record in the semifinals to 1-4.
The 29-year-old Romanian served one ace, won 78% of the points on the first serve and broke the serve of her Ukrainian opponent eight times from 14 opportunities to book a championship match berth.
