Rafael Nadal was forced to quit the semi-final match at Wimbledon 2022 earlier this month due to an abdominal strain, ending his chances of winning the Calendar Year Grand Slam. It was stated that the Spaniard had a 7-millimeter tear, and Nadal later acknowledged that he would have sustained a career-threatening injury before facing Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final. The 36-year-old will, however, be making a month-long come back to compete in the major ATP event alongside Novak Djokovic.

The Canadian Open is set to return to the ATP calendar next month in Montréal with the IGA Stadium at full capacity after a lengthy three-year absence caused by the Covid restrictions, and the tournament has announced its star-studded list of competitors. At the Canadian Open, he has won five times: in 2005, 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2019. If he wins another championship, it will put him on par with the legendary Ivan Lendl, who currently holds the tournament record with six trophies in nine finals.

With his participation in the Masters 1000 competition, which will take place between August 5 and August 14, Nadal will make his comeback to the ATP tour. The all-time Grand Slam leader, Rafael Nadal, will be aiming to make history at the competition.

Djokovic will also be returning to the ATP tour for the first time since winning the Wimbledon championship at the All England Club for the seventh time. In his career, he has triumphed at the Canadian Open four times: in 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2016.
