Tennis News: Nick Kyrgios,a contender for US Open crown?
Australian legend Nick Kyrgios has revealed the reason behind his recent success after scripting his second career win over a world number one
The Aussie is in brilliant form, having been a finalist at Wimbledon this year before winning eight consecutive matches.
The former marks his first Major final, and the 27-year-old also won his seventh career title in Washington last week. He recently defeated defending champion and world number one Daniil Medvedev in Montreal.
However, his streak ended in the quarter-finals when he suffered a shocking loss against Polish player Hubert Hurkacz due to an apparent injury.
After losing to Novak Djokovic in his maiden Grand Slam final, the world number 37 won the doubles title alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis in Atlanta before clinching the singles and doubles trophies in Washington last week.
Before his memorable Wimbledon outing, the 27-year-old had entered back-to-back semi-finals in the tune-up events on grass. In addition, he grabbed the Australian Open doubles title at the start of the season.
Nick Kyrgios has shared his secret as the Australian becomes a player on the list of favourites for the US Open with his victory over Medvedev.
What is the reason behind Kyrgios' successful 2022 run?
The Aussie remarked that his physio pulled everything together this season after facing troubles while travelling in the pandemic.
After rallying from a set down to thrash top seed Medvedev 6-7 6-4 6-2 in Montreal, Nick said that his physio is always present with him.
During the pandemic, his absence made it difficult for Kyrgios to manage his body. Now he spends two-three hours working on it every day.
He plans to keep it rested in time for the US Open, which could be his first-ever singles Grand Slam title if he maintains his current form.
Despite Medvedev's win, legendary ace-hitter Andy Roddick fears Nick Kyrgios is a 'time bomb'
Kyrgios spoke about his pre-US Open plans and has decided not to play any tournament a week before the Grand Slam. He wants to recover and organise his training, as stated by the 27-year-old.
Kyrgios can still work his magic at next week's Cincinnati Masters to secure some ranking points before the US Open starts, as he is only a few spots away from earning a seeded rank.
The Australian will benefit from being named in a favourable draw along with a few comfortable opening rounds in Flushing Meadows if he becomes a seeded player.
This will also be favourable to the top-ranked players at the US Open who are not ready to face a floating Kyrgios in their section of the draw.
