Tennis News: Nick Kyrgios raises US Open injury concern during the match against Hubert Hurkacz

Nick Kyrgios raised an alert about his fitness two weeks before the commencement of the US Open. He was visibly struggling during his Canadian Open quarter-final contest with Hubert Hurkacz

Kyrgios' was frustrated by the start of the third set after his opponent paused to take a toilet break. The Australian star mentioned that he was in discomfort due to back pain.

At one point, he was seen arguing with the umpire because of Hurkacz's lengthy toilet break but was drained of energy on the court. His opponent emerged as the winner and progressed to the semi-finals.

Kyrgios hopes to return to action at the Cincinnati Masters next week. His participation in the tune-up event before the US Open will depend on his back condition.

Kyrgios has led a successful season, having won 15 of his previous 16 matches heading into the clash with Hurkacz, earning him the reputation of being the most in-form man.

He scripted at the Citi Open by winning both the singles and doubles titles. The Aussie even outclassed world number one Daniil Medvedev to register his first win over a player ranked number one in the world after his monumental win against Rafael Nadal eight years ago.

The 27-year-old defeated compatriot Alex de Minaur and won his first Masters 1000 title. However, Hubert Hurkacz, the winner of the Miami Open last year, was awaiting Kyrgios' presence on the court.

Unfortunately, Kyrgios looked as if he was struggling from his opening service game, and as a consequence, the match strongly favoured his opponent.

Kyrgios was seen clutching at his back and stretching in between points. He minimised the damage by pulling the first set into a tie-break, although the Polish star took an early lead.

When the second set began, Kyrgios looked at ease and found multiple chances to break Hurkacz's serve. However, the eight-seeded Hurkacz found his footing, and the set ended in a tie-break.

The competition went neck to neck until Kyrgios got lucky, and his attempted drop shot bounced twice on the net cord before landing on Hurkacz's side.

Both players were stunned as Kyrgios stood open-mouthed, and Hurkacz threw his racket into the air in shock. The Pole fought back, but Kyrgios had enough energy to push the match into a decider.

The world number 10 then took an extended toilet break which became the source of Kyrgios' frustration before the start of the third set and perhaps a catalyst for his opponent's victory. An injured Kyrgios couldn't tackle any more challenges, and his impressive outing ended.
