Rafael Nadal reveals he is behind in Australian Open preparation

Rafael Nadal has found himself in a fix ahead of the Australian Open after admitting he isn't well prepared for the upcoming tennis season. Nadal flew to South America after the ATP Finals to play in exhibition matches.

Although it was expected to throw him back into a competitive zone, he revealed that he is far from it. After landing in South America, he rested for a week and then performed some light physical training.

"I'm aware that I'm a little bit short, but I'm confident that I'll be able to pick up the level I need to be competitive in Australia," he said.

In addition, he introduced significant changes in his team, and coach Francis Roig Roig departed.

His new role as a father also shaped his mood in the second half of the season, but he admitted that he has welcomed these changes and is now happy.

"Of course, it has been a drastic change, but I have to organize myself to be able to continue doing my professional life in the best possible way," he added

"What happens is that my career, luckily, has lasted much longer than I expected. So I have to learn to live with this new stage of my life and try to remain as competitive as possible."

After walking out of the US Open, Nadal competed in the Laver Cup, where he heartbreakingly participated in Roger Federer's send-off by playing a doubles match alongside the Swiss.

He finished his season at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals, reassuring his fans that he is not retiring anytime soon despite enduring a chronic foot injury that temporarily prompted him to consider pulling the plug on tennis.
