Tennis News: Diriyah Tennis Cup: The four top seeds clash in Saudi Arabia
Top four seeds Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev, and other top ATP players, including Nick Kyrgios and Hubert Hurkacz, have travelled to Saudi Arabia to take part in the Diriyah Tennis Cup
Diriyah Tennis Cup will be played at At-Turaif, the UNESCO World Heritage site in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, from December 8 to 10th. The exhibition event has drawn a lot of top tennis players owing to the massive prize pot.
Key Players at the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup
Other than the top four seeds, Wimbledon finalists Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini, Grand Slam champions Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem will participate in the event.
Daniil Medvedev will look forward to defending his title after winning the inaugural audition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup in 2019.
Hubert Hurkacz is keen to compete at the Diriyah Tennis Cup as he believes it would help him prepare for the 2023 season.
The 25-year-old Pole said, "It is a great opportunity to play tournaments like the Diriyah Tennis Cup because you can give your best against some of the best players worldwide. It helps you to see things in your game you should improve during your off-season and until January, you have a bit of time to make adjustments."
Matteo Berrettini has not played since finishing as the runner-up at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup, following which he had to skip Paris Open, Vienna Open and Davis Cup Finals due to an injury. He is feeling healthy again and is set to be the star in Saudi Arabia.
Prize Money for the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup
The singles champion at the exhibition will walk away with a USD one million prize amount, the runner-up will get USD 5,00,000, and the semi-finalists will receive USD 2,50,000 each.
The winners of the doubles category will receive USD 2,50,000 each, while the runner-ups will get USD 1,25,000 per person.
