Both players went all-in during a difficult opening set at the indoor ATP 500 tournament, and Dominic Thiem appeased the home crowd with clean strokes. He struck from both wings from the baseline prompting Daniil Medvedev to put his guard up.

The former number one found his pace when he broke Dominic Thiem for 4-3. He was consistent with his hits; shortly after, a comfortable victory seemed to be in the cards.

"It was a tough match," the top seed remarked. "At one moment in the match, I started to put a lot of pressure on his serve. I was serving good myself, so I didn't [give] him too many opportunities on my serve, and that was the key today I think," he continued.

Daniil Medvedev admitted that the seventh game of the match was crucial for him. Dominic Thiem led with two or three game points, but the Russian pulled them back to a deuce. "When I won this game, I got a little bit of momentum during the match," he further revealed.

Currently, Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem are going to level at 3-3 in their ATP Head2Head series. The 26-year-old Russian will next face sixth seed Jannik Sinner who downed Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-3.

Daniil Medvedev is currently ranked fifth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Race To Turin. He has a chance of sealing one of the three remaining spots for the ATP Finals in November if he treads far into the ongoing tournament.

Borna Coric cruises past Stefanos Tsitsipas in an engaging three-setter

Borna Coric rallied from a set and a breakdown to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 and advance to the quarter-finals. It marked the Croatian's third consecutive win against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He had spectacularly fended off six match points against the Greek at the 2020 US Open and trailed behind by a set at the ongoing ATP 500 event. He broke the Greek and then saved a breakpoint at 2-3.

He scored 15 straight points on serve that lasted till the third set. Both players attempted to hold their serves but were broken and counter-broken halfway into the set.

The trade-off lasted till 3-3, and Coric eventually won the tie-break after a single mini-break. The Croatian now leads their ATP Head2Head 3-1, and the Greek's only win emerged from an early retirement by Coric in Rome 2018.

Borna Coric has improved his record to 13-3 since the start of Cincinnati, where he lodged a summit clash victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 6-2. Borna Coric will now play his fourth quarter-final of the season and his second of the month.

His next opponent is fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner entered the Vienna quarter-finals on Thursday night with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Francisco Cerundolo.
