Andy Murray defeated top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-6(4), 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open at Tennis Club Weissenhof on June 10
Former World No. 1 Andy Murray made brilliant use of his excellent baseline play and backhand slice to show his grass-court dominance to advance to the semi-finals at the Boss Open. After missing most of the clay-court season to focus on his grass-court training, the two-time Wimbledon champion is back in action.
Both the players were evenly matched in a tight first set. Andy Murray saved one point at 5-6 to get an advantage against his Greek opponent. The Scot built on the momentum and went on the offensive in the second set. He got a crucial break in the sixth game with a backhand pass and eased through the second set to seal his victory after one hour and 40 minutes of play.
In a post-match interview, Andy Murray said, “It was an amazing atmosphere. Almost full crowd. Beautiful weather today, really nice conditions to play tennis. I thought I did well. He served unbelievably in the first set. I felt like I had very few chances, but when he created chances on my serve. I stayed strong. I played a solid tie-break, and in the second set, once I was in the rallies, I felt like I was dictating many of the points. It was a good performance.
The victory improved the win-loss record of Andy Murray against Stefanos Tsitsipas to 1-1 and 113-23 on the grass court. Andy Murray will lock horns with Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open on June 11.

In a post-match interview, Nick Kyrgios said, “In the first set, he seemed to be in a groove on his serve. In the first set, I wasn’t able to get many opportunities. He was excellent. I think he likes the grass. He has had some fantastic results at Wimbledon. I wasn’t feeling that great at the back of the court, but if I am serving 215kmph and hitting the good spots on this court, it is almost impossible to return. Hopefully, I can bring more of that tomorrow.
