Stefanos Tsitsipas splits with co-coach Mark Philippoussis ahead of French Open challenge
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas has parted ways with Australian co-coach Mark Philippousis following his dramatic Italian Open semi-final straight-set defeat.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and co-coach Mark Philippousis have ended their working relationship after almost ten months of their partnership.
This follows Tsitsipas' Italian Open semi-final defeat to eventual champion Daniel Medvedev, in a rain-interrupted match that saw a frustrated Tsitsipas ask his own mother Julia Apolosti to leave his box during the match.
Phillippous had joined the 24-year-old's camp as co-coach shortly after Wimbledon last July when the Greek star was still fourth in the World Rankings.
The coach shared the news via his social media account, where he wrote "Stefanos Tsitsipas Thanks for the opportunity of being a part of your team. It was a great ride and experience, I'm proud of what we achieved together in the short amount of time we had. I wish you health, happiness and success for your future, on and off the court!"
The Australian coach was working together as co-coach with Apostolos Tsitsipas, Stefano's father, and seemingly had a great relationship with the pair prior to this abrupt exit.
It remains to be seen if Stefano Tsitsipas will be replacing Mark Philippousis with the French Open [Roland Garros] qualifiers having already begun, or opt to go ahead with just his father as coach for the tournament.
