American great Serena Williams crashed out of the US Open after a hard-fought three-set 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1 loss to Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia in the third round
Serena William is one of the most successful players in the history of tennis. She ended her tennis career in front of a fiery crowd at familiar Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, a venue where she has lifted the US Open trophy for a record total of six times.
The intense and memorable clash between Serena Williams and Ajla Tomljanovic lasted for more than three hours. The 40-year-old champion saved five match-point opportunities, but Ajla Tomljanovic managed to convert on the next opportunity to seal her victory.
Serena Williams said, “There’s no happiness in this topic for me. The best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I am here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”
