Rolex Paris Masters: Novak Djokovic defeats Karen Khachanov for the 11th straight tour-level win
Serbian legend Novak Djokovic secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Karen Khachanov of Russia in the third round of the Rolex Paris Masters to extend his winning streak to 11 straight matches
Karen Khachanov had earlier defeated Novak Djokovic in the championship match of the Paris Masters 1000 in 2018. The Russian was keen to beat the former world's no. 1 Serb again and raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening set.
However, Novak Djokovic soon discovered his rhythm and took control of the match, firing 17 winners, two aces, and converting eight breakpoints to secure his victory after one hour and 17 minutes of play.
In a post-match interview, Novak Djokovic said that "I was a different player in the second set. I stepped it up and served better, and I'm just really pleased with how I finished."
Novak Djokovic will face Lorenzo Musetti of Italy for a spot in the semifinal round of the Masters 1000 event in Paris on November 5.
In another men's singles clash of the day, Casper Rudd failed to book a quarterfinal loss after suffering a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 defeat to Lorenzo Musetti.
Stefanos Tsitsipas beats home favorite Corentin Moutet
The world's no. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece faced off a tough challenge from home favorite Corentin Moutet to secure a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) victory in the third round of Rolex Paris Masters at Accor Arena in Paris, France, on November 4
The fifth-seeded Greek began the match with aggressive service games and dominated throughout the set to gain a one-set advantage. He held three breakpoints at 0/40 in the early stages of the second set, but Corentin Moutet roared back to force the match into a decider.
However, the 24-year-old Greek did not falter and pulled off a reversal from 0/2 down in the tiebreak to claim his 59th tour-level victory for the season.
Stefanos Tsitipas served three aces, won 91% of the points on the first serve and broke the serve of his French opponent one time from six opportunities. In contrast, the 23-year-old Frenchman served three aces, won 75% of the points on the first serve, and committed three double faults.
After the victory, Stefanos Tsitsipas said, "I am happy because I knew I had to not just deal with a player today but also with the crowd. It worked out well for me toward the end. I was very solid and consistent, knowing that I can really generate more opportunities from my service."
He further added, "I was laser-focused on every single one of the points. I played some good shots deep and short, and it was a very good ending."
Stefanos Tsitsipas will lock horns with Tommy Paul of the United States in a quarterfinal clash of the Rolex Paris Masters on November 5.
The 25-year-old American booked a quarterfinal spot after securing a straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pablo Carreño Busta of Spain on November 4.
