Is Rafael Nadal ready for Roland Garros? Will Emma Raducanu skip the Grand Slam?
Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he is ready for an intense battle at the French Open and posted a training picture at his academy in Mallorca, implying that he is prepared to start his campaign on May 22
The 13-time Roland Garros champion is still struggling to train every day, so he would bring along a doctor with him to Paris. The source of his misery is a foot injury that flared up in his match against Denis Shapovalov at the Italian Open. He gave up towards the end of the game and went down 1-6 7-5 6-2 in the last-16. His earlier injury involved a stress fracture in the ribs, affecting his gameplay.
Despite all complications, the world number five is looking forward to a great run having won his 21st major at the Australian Open earlier this year. After a rough year, that victory witnessed the Spanish icon missing Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open. Nadal lost to world number Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of Roland Garros last year, which was only his third career loss at his beloved venue. This year, he will try to reclaim the title with high hopes and aspirations.
Emma Raducanu might skip French Open
Emma Raducanu has no choice but to walk out of the Italian Open 2022. Raducanu, who won the US Open in 2021, crashed out of the first round as she couldn't continue after a few minutes into the second set. She had already lost the first set 6-2 due to the same problem that plagued her during her last days in Madrid. In the press conference, Emma revealed that she was profoundly disappointed but realised how hard it was for her to keep going.
