Iga Swiatek beats Maria Sakkari to secure Indian Wells title
Iga Swiatek beat Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-1 to claim the Indian Wells women's title in California.
The Pole claimed her 11th straight victory in windy conditions, which she dealt with much better than her Greek opponent.
There were seven breaks of serve in the opening set, with Swiatek claiming the key one, while she raced into a 3-1 lead in the second set and never looked back.
The win sees the 20-year-old rise to second in the world rankings, the best of her career thus far, and adds to her success in Doha in February.
The Indian Wells crown is her fifth WTA title in her career.
She also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January, while she also won the French Open in 2020.
Speaking after the match, she said, "Today was pretty crazy because of the conditions.
"After playing so well at previous tournaments, I didn't know if it was possible for me to play that well and that long."
She will be looking for further success at the Miami Open, which begins this week.
