Stefanos Tsitsipas had a good start but soon fell behind and had to claw his way to the victory towards the end. It was the third time in the last two years that the fourth-seeded Greek has won at Roland Garros after losing the first two rounds.

Stefanos Tsitsipas took a quick 4-1 lead at 15/40 before his Italian opponent won ten of the next 11 games to lead by a set and 4-0. Lorenzo Musetti used the Greek's lack of footing and trouble on the court by alternating between consistency and aggression.

Stefanos Tsitsipas found his footing in the third set and soon found momentum for an unexpected comeback, jumping to a 3-0 lead. The Italian tried to mount a counter-attack, but Tsitsipas played with a consistent routine, creating more opportunities, serving better and pressing more. Stefanos Tsitsipas broke Lorenzo Musetti in the final set and secured his eighth break to win the last set 6-2.

In a post-match interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas said, "Things don't come easy. I refuse to give up. That is how it works for me. You never really think about getting back after being two sets to love. You play it to point after point. You wish that your efforts will pay off in the longer run.
