Emma Raducanu broke the serve first in the first set when she tied the set 2-2 as Aliaksandra Sasnovich made the mistake of feeding the forehand of the Brit multiple times. Emma Raducanu mounted a spectacular counter-attack to win the first set, consisting of several angled backhand cross-court winners.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich fired 19 winners to four unfocused errors to win the second set with ease as Emma Raducanu suffered through forehand errors and failed to respond to clean shots made by Aliaksandra Sasnovich throughout the second and third sets. Aliaksandra Sasnovich built on the momentum and sliced through attempts of Emma Raducanu to win the final set 6-1.
After the match, Aliaksandra Sasnovich said, "Honestly, I had Covid a few months ago. So I did not prepare well for the crazy season. I did not expect things to go easy, but yeah. I am happy.
Emma Raducanu does not have a lot of experience on clay court, and it was her first appearance at Roland Garros. In a post-match interview, she said, "think that I got stronger as the clay season went on. I still have quite a long way to go on this surface, but I had an excellent first experience on the clay.
Jessica Pegula beats Anhelina Kalinina, storms into the third round
Jessica Pegula defeated Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in the second round of the French Open at Stade Roland Garros on May 25.
Jessica Pegula cruised through the first set and had a 5-1 lead in the second set. However, she missed three match points serving for 5-2, which allowed World No. 36 Anhelina Kalinina to pull an exciting turnaround, winning seven straight games to send the match into a third set.
Jessica Pegula got a double break in the final set and took a 4-1 lead, but Anhelina Kalinina played well and levelled the score before the American brook again for 5-4. Jessica Pegula converted her eighth game with a backhand volley to win the match after 2 hours and 26 minutes of play.
Jessica Pegula will lock horns with last year's semifinalist Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia in the third round of the French Open on May 27.
