The sixth seed Carlos Alcaraz went into Roland Garros after storming the tennis world with four titles, including the Madrid Masters and Barcelona Open trophies this season. The 19-year-old reached the quarter-final at Roland Garros last year and is going into the tournament as one of the established title favourites.

Carlos Alcaraz showed frustration in the first set as the situation got tense in the tenth game. However, the Spaniard pounced on the first opportunity to turn the set around when his Argentine opponent faltered to win the first set 6-4. In the second set, Carlos Alcaraz got a break for 4-2 after Juan Ignacio Londero fired a wide forehand. Soon after, Londero misfired again, giving Carlos Alcaraz an absolute advantage.

Carlos Alcaraz completely dominated the final set, which resulted in a third set bagel for Juan Ignacio Londero. After the win, Carlos Alcaraz said, "This tournament is very special. I have been watching it since I was a kid.

World No. 6 Carlos Alcaraz is in the same half of the draw as the defending champion Novak Djokovic and 13-time Roland Garros winner Rafael Nadal. He is one of the favourites for the 2022 French Open title and carries the weight of expectation on his shoulders.

Carlos Alcaraz will face his fellow countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round of the French Open on May 25.

Alexander Zverev breezes past Sebastian Ofner

Third seed Alexander Zverev breezed past Sebastian Ofner of Austria with a comfortable 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 win in the first round of the French Open in Paris. The 25-year-old German put forth a solid display to wrap up the match in 1 hour and 40 minutes. The victory improved his match record at Roland Garros to 19-6.

Alexander Zverev set the tone of the first set after carving two breakpoints on Sebastian Ofner's serve. The Austrian tried to fend off strikes but failed as Zverev won the first set, having lost just four points on his serve. Ofner was unable to trouble his opponent in the final two sets despite impressive winners. Alexander Zverev fired 13 aces and did not face any breakpoints.

It was the second face-to-face meeting between Alexander Zverev and Sebastian Ofner at a Grand Slam event, a second straight-set victory for the German after previously beating his Austrian opponent in the third round of 2017 Wimbledon.

Felix Auger Aliassime astonishes in thrilling five-setter

In the meantime, world number nine Felix Auger Aliassime of Canada on Sunday defeated Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas in the opening match of the current edition of the French Open. He suffered a slow start before overcoming Juan Pablo Varillas 2-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in a match that lasted three hours and 13 minutes.

Dominic Thiem fails to run his campaign due to a disheartening first-round defeat against Bolivian world number 87 Hugo Dellien 6-3 6-2 6-4. The Austrian athlete had put up a fight against Rafael Nadal in 2018 and 2019 on clay and hoped to regain his form after a nagging wrist injury. He won the US Open in 2020 but has been on the sidelines for most of last year. He has failed to win a match at any of the tournaments since his wrist injury resurfaced in March and made 42 unforced errors on Sunday.
