Poland's Maga Linette, world number 56, pulled off an impressive feat beating Jabeur in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 5-7 at Roland Garros on Sunday. Despite having her own serve broken in the first set, the 27-year-old made a charged comeback to win the first set in 37 minutes.

The second set went into the tie-breaker, but Linette won the set in 59 minutes. The decider witnessed Jabeur trying to catch up as Linnete refused to budge. The skilled player made too many unforced errors failing to return shots that she could otherwise hit with ease. Jabeur had entered the tournament, having won 17 matches on clay and becoming the only player to qualify for three clay-court finals.

Sloane Stephens notches the first-round victory while Garbine Muguruza takes an exit

Meanwhile, Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion, advanced to the second round of women's singles at Roland Garros. She faced no first-round blues as she defeated qualifier Niemeier 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Furthermore, world number 26 Sorana Cristea won the first main draw match at Roland Garros by defeating Germany's world number 106 Tatjana Maria of Germany 6-3, 6-3 to ease into the women's singles second round.

18th seed Grigor Dimitrov decimated world number 58 Marcos Giron of the United States 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 in an hour and 34 minutes to advance to the second round. Argentina's icon and world number 15 Diego Schwartzman defeated Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Luck fails to favour big names of the sport as 2016 champion and 10th seed Garbine Muguruza walked away from the first round. In the first round, the two-time Grand Slam winner was beaten by veteran Kaia Kanepi 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
