French Open champion: Indians crash out of French Open
Indian tennis legends Rohanna Bopanna and Sania Mirza lost their mixed doubles matches at the Roland Garros Stadium in Paris on Sunday
Bopanna and his Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac couldn't zoom past Czechia's Lucie Hradecka and Ecuador's Gonzalo Escobar 7(7)-6(2), 6-4 they fought hard in a match that lasted one hour and 18 minutes. There were no service breaks in the first set leading to a tiebreaker where the scoreline read 2-2. Rohan Bopanna and Andreja Klepac conceded five consecutive points to their opponents.
Lucie Hradecka and Gonzalo Escobar utilised their early break in the second set to win the match and sail into the next round. Rohan has pinned his hopes on a successful run in the doubles event as the Indian, alongside his partner Matwé Middelkoop awaits their quarter-final match against Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliövaara on May 30. Bopanna and Middelkoop stunned the world by defeating the Tokyo 2020 champions Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic of Croatia 6-7 7-6 7-6 in their last match, where both sides went all out. So the duo is expected to set up a place in this year's semi-finals.
Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig lose to the Brazilian duo in the second round
Meanwhile, six-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza and Croatia's Ivan Dodig lost their bid for the title against the Brazilian duo of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Bruno Soares 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes. Both Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza were playing in their respective second-round matches. However, Like Rohan Bopanna, Sania's doubles campaign is still alive at Roland Garros. The 35-year-old tennis player has paired up with Czechia's Lucie Hradecka, and the duo will play USA's Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff in the last 16 matches on Monday.
