It was Chloe Paquet’s first match against a top ten opponent. She clinched the first set on Court Suzanne Lenglen as she took advantage of 13 unfocused errors by her Belarusian opponent. However, Iga Swiatek was down an early break in the second and third sets but bounced back to win both the sets despite having more unfocused errors (50) than winners (42).

Aryna Sabalenka had a remarkable season last year; the Belarusian has failed to leave an impression for much of the current season. However, her performance improved on clay court, reaching the finals at Stuttgart Open and the semifinals at Rome Open. The 24-year-old was almost on the brink of elimination in the first round of the French Open due to too many unfocused errors, but she turned it around in time to continue her Roland Garros journey.

Seventh seed Aryna Sabalenka will lock horns with World No. 57 Madison Brengle in the second round of the French Open on May 26.
