In a brilliant display of resilience, World No. 7, Andrey Rublev defeated Cristian Garin of Chile 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(11) in the third round of the French Open at Stade Roland Garros on May 28
Andrey Rublev had to work hard again to defeat Cristian Garin after dropping sets against Soonwoo Kwon in the first round and Federico Delbonis in the second round. The 24-year-old Russian kept his composure during the heavy-hitting clash.
Andrey Rublev became more proactive with his game after losing the second set. He pulled off a double break down from the fourth set, blasting his reverse groundstrokes and saving five match points to seal his victory after three hours and 11 minutes of play. The win improved his head to head record against Cristian Garin to 3-0. He also improved to 28-7 on the season and 10-3 on clay court.
Andrey Rublev will face Jannik Sinner in a fourth-round clash on May 30. The Russian sensation will match his best Roland Garros result when he reaches the quarter-finals in 2020 if he beats Sinner in the next round.
French Open: Stefanos Tsitsipas advances to the fourth round with a straight-set victory over Mikael Ymer
Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Mikael Ymer of Sweden 6-2, 6 -2, 6-1 in the third round of the French Open at Stade Roland Garros on May 28.
Stefanos Tsitsipas dominated the match and took quick control in all three sets to wrap up the game with an impressive straight-sets victory on Court Suzanne Lenglen after one hour and 32 minutes of play.
It was a completely one-sided affair as the Greek broke the serve of Mikael Ymer seven times and struck groundstrokes with considerable accuracy. The victory improved his ATP Head to Head record against Mikael Ymer to 4-0, with Tsitsipas winning all 11 sets across four meetings.
In a post-match interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas said, “There were a lot of good rallies from my side. I have a long history with Mikael, playing in juniors, and we’ve played each other a lot. I want to congratulate him on his great effort. he had a good run to the third round. It was a good game from my side. I played well and topped it off with good, patient tennis.
Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters champion Stefanos Tsitsipas has now reached the fourth round at Roland Garros for the fourth consecutive time. The win against Mikael Ymer shows that the World No. 4 from Greece is at the top of his form as he won much more comfortably than in his previous two rounds against Lorenzo Musetti and Zdenek Kolar.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Holger Rune for a quarter-final spot in the fourth round of the French Open on May 30.
