French Open: 300 Grand Slam wins for Rafael Nadal as he cruises past Corentin Moutet to reach the third round
Rafael Nadal defeated Corentin Moutet of France 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round of the French Open at Stade Roland Garros on May 26 to secure a straight-sets victory
Rafael Nadal gave an impressive performance to win his 300th Grand Slam match, crushing local favourite Corentin Moutet to continue his Roland Garros campaign. 35-year-old fifth seed has performed exceptionally well in the first two rounds, despite a lack of Preparation due to a foot problem and a rib injury.
Rafael Nadal broke the serve of his opponent four times. He struck constant winners from his backhand and forehand to win the first two sets on Court Philippe Chatrier. In the third set, Corentin Moutet got a quick 2-0 lead, but the Spaniard immediately bounced back to get the game back on serve and was able to break Corentin Moutet to seal his victory.
After the match, Rafael Nadal said, "Preparation hasn't been perfect, so I did not expect an ideal start to the tournament, but it has been going quite well. I am optimistic about the things that I did out there tonight. Of course, there is room to improve. I need to improve if I want to keep having chances to go deeper.
Novak Djokovic beats Alex Molčan, and storms into the third round
Defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Alex Molčan of Slovakia 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in the second round of the French Open at Stade Roland Garros on May 25.
Novak Djokovic quickly overwhelmed Alex Molčan with his relentless baseline play in the game's early stages. The Serb did not face a breakpoint and won 29 of 34 first-serve points with a constant stream of winning volleys. He took advantage of consecutive unfocused errors by Alex Molčan to seal the victory in two hours and 15 minutes.
Novak Djokovic is the top seed at Roland Garros for the fourth consecutive year. He has not dropped a set in the first two rounds of Roland Garros since 2010 and has not lost a match before the third round since 2005. The win against Alex Molčan has kept his streaks alive and improved his head to head record against his French opponent to 2-0.
After the match, Novak Djokovic said, "I am pleased with how I am feeling on the court and how I have been striking the ball. Today was also under challenging conditions and playing against a clay specialist, someone who is a tricky opponent and coming off from the Lyon final last week. It would never be an easy match, but I thought I performed very well.
Cameron Norrie beats Jason Kubler at Roland Garros
Cameron Norrie cruised past Jason Kubler of Australia 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to secure a straight-sets victory in the second round of Roland Garros.
Cameron Norrie dominated the match, breaking Jason Kubler six times and winning 73% of his first service points. The No. 10 seed fired 36 winners to secure a third-round spot with a straight-sets victory after two hours and 29 minutes on the court.
In a post-match interview, Cameron Noorie said, "I got matches under my belt last week and then obviously played two clean games. For the most part, in the past couple of years, I have done well being the favourite. It is a different kind of pressure.
He will face Karen Khachanov of Russia in the third round of the French Open on May 27.
