Emma Raducanu says losing matches is "taking it out" on her
Emma Raducanu threw away a winning position in the second round of the Miami Open against Katerina Siniakova and has said that losing matches is "taking it out" of her.
The Brit won the opening set and was a break up in both the second and third, but still went on to lose the match 3-6 6-4 7-5.
She was even serving for the match in that final set. Throughout the game, she failed to convert 12 of 17 break points.
The US Open champion’s form has been erratic since winning at Flushing Meadows back in September, and she has only won two of her seven matches in 2022.
Furthermore, this was the first time that Siniakova had beaten a player in the world’s top 20 in nine attempts, with Raducanu currently seeded 11th.
Speaking after the game, Raducanu said, "I thought she [Siniakova] played really well, there was some good tennis from both sides but it sucks to lose that one.
"It's a challenge for sure and it takes a lot out of you to keep bouncing back from it, but what can I do about it now?
"I think the time-out did maybe affect the momentum but I still managed to regroup and win the first set. She seemed like she was running completely fine to me."
Meanwhile, the Czech said, "I think I just felt better as the match was going on because really, I was fighting in the beginning.
"It looks like I need to lose before I try to start to play my game!
"It was a really tough match and it could've gone either way, but I'm really happy that it [went] for me."
The clay court season now beckons for Raducanu, who will be hoping for an uptick in form ahead of the grass court season in June.
