Dan Evans ends six-match losing streak to reach Grand Prix Hassan II quarter-final

British number two Dan Evans ended a six-match losing streak to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech with a straight-sets win over Alexei Popyrin.

    Dan Evans. Dan Evans.

World number 30 Evans, the tournament's second seed who was handed a first-round bye, made a fast start on the clay in Morocco, breaking Australian Popyrin in the opening game of the match.

Popyrin, the world number 95, continued to come under pressure on his serve as Evans broke in the fifth game and then again to take the first set in just 27 minutes.

The second set proved a much more even contest until Evans, who last won a match in the second round of the Australian Open in January, forced another break to lead 4-2.

Although Popyrin fended off one match point chance on his next service game, Evans eventually got the job done when he converted a third opportunity to complete a 6-1 6-3 victory.

Evans will go on to face either Italian Andrea Vavassori or Spain's Jaume Munar in the last eight.
