Both Casper Rudd and Joao Sousa played well, with the Norwegian barely edging past Sousa after a tiebreak in the first and third set. The dramatic match was the first final of the ATP Tour season to reach a third set tiebreak, and it lasted for three hours, making it the most extended three-set final of the season.

Casper Rudd demonstrated an exceptional fighting spirit. He bounced back from a breakdown at 4-5 in the third set to become the first player to win consecutive Geneva Open titles since Stan Wawrinka in 2016 and 2017. He fired 11 aces, struck the ball with power, and struck with consistent accuracy to secure the win after three hours and one minute.

After the match, Casper Rudd said, "It was one of the craziest matches that I have ever played. It was a lot of up and down. Sousa was close to winning, and then suddenly everything turns around and this is tennis. It is always tough for the player who is not winning."

World No. 8 Casper Rudd also clinched the trophy at Buenas Aries earlier this year. Therefore, the win at Geneva makes him the sixth player to win multiple tour-level trophies after Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Andrey Rublev, Cameron Norrie, and Reilly Opelka. It was Casper Rudd's eighth ATP Tour trophy. He has now won six of the seven ATP 250 events.

It was Joao Sousa's second appearance at the Geneva Open final. The Portuguese climbed 16 places to World No. 63 in the ATP rankings following his run at Switzerland.

Wimbledon points penalty is unfair, according to Casper Rudd

Casper Rudd expressed his views on Wimbledon being stripped of ranking points by the main tennis tours. He thinks that the move will be unfair to players specialising in grass-court matches as clay-court specialists will rack up ranking points at Roland Garros, giving them an unfair advantage.

He also said, "Everyone can understand both sides of the situation, first of all, the decision to ban the Russians and Belarusians. It is tough. This decision is tough to know what is right and what is wrong. The ATP is trying to do their best for the players.”

Having won at Geneva, Casper Rudd will be going into the French Open at the top of his form. He will face French favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the opening round of the French Open on May 23
