Carlos Alcaraz Takes Out Rafael Nadal In Madrid
A year after losing in a second-round defeat to Rafael Nadal at the 2021 Madrid Open, Carlos Alcaraz avenged his earlier loss by defeating his countryman 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in Madrid.
The win pushed the 19-year old to World No. 6 in the ATP live rankings.
After winning his maiden Masters' title at the Miami Open and reaching the ATP top 10 rankings at 19, Carlos Alcaraz added to his list of achievements in his brilliant 2022 season by becoming the first teenager to beat Rafael Nadal.
The young Spaniard was untouchable in the opening set and easily won it 6-1 with clever drop shots and huge baseline hitting. He even withstood the trademark Nadal comeback in the second set, which ended with a 1-6 victory for Nadal. Carlos Alcaraz won 61% of the points on the first serve and 73% on the second serve. Rafael Nadal worked hard to fight back, but the Alcaraz did not falter.
In the final round, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Rafael Nadal 6-3 to wrap up the 2 hours and 29-minute long game.
After the match, Carlos Alcaraz commented, "It means a lot to me; all the hard work that I put in every day pays off today. To beat Rafa, the best player in history on clay, means a lot to me.

Three-time Madrid Open champion, Novak Djokovic, defeated Hubert Hurkacz 6-3, 6-4 at Manolo Santana Stadium in Madrid on May 6 to advance to the semifinals of the Madrid Open.
Novak Djokovic looked much like himself in Madrid after recent disappointments at Barcelona Open and Serbian Open. The 34-year-old got a walkover to the quarter-finals after his opponent Andy Murray withdrew from the tournament due to an illness.
Novak Djokovic closed out the first set 6-3 in just 36 minutes after getting an early 3-0 lead. The 20-time grand slam winner maintained the pressure in the second set and got a crucial 3-2 break to defeat his Polish opponent in one hour and 20 minutes. It was the Serb's fourth consecutive victory against Hubert Hurkacz.
Novak Djokovic was pleased with his performance in the quarter-final match. He said, "The first set I think we both did not play so great, took us both time to adapt to conditions. The second set, I think better quality tennis. I was serving well."
