Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie withdraw from Acapulco

Top seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie have both withdrawn from the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.

    Carlos Alcaraz. Carlos Alcaraz.

The duo battled in finals on back-to-back Sundays, with Alacaraz lifting the Argentina Open trophy, then Norrie fighting back to defeat the Spaniard at the Rio open this past weekend.

Alcaraz has had a busy return to tennis since returning from a hamstring injury that saw him miss the Australian Open. However, the US Open winner appears to have aggravated the injury once again. Taking to Twitter, Alcaraz revealed his withdrawal from ATP Acapulco.

"Unfortunately I won't be able to play in @AbiertoTelcel," wrote the 19-year-old, who boasts an 8-1 record for 2023.

"I have a grade 1 strain in my right hamstring that will keep me out for several days, according to the tests we did this morning. I'm really sad I can't compete here, but now it's time to think about recovering and being ready as soon as possible. I hope to see you all soon!"

Also taking to social media, Norrie alluded to fatigue leading to his absence from the Mexican event.

"Unfortunately I have to withdraw from Acapulco," said the Briton - who leads the ATP Tour in match wins this season with 18 - in an Instagram Story.

"It's one of my favourite tournaments, so it's really tough for me to withdraw."

The pair will be replaced by lucky losers. World number four Casper Ruud is now the top seed in the place of Alcaraz. The talented Norwegian faces Japanese star Taro Daniel in his opener on Wednesday.
