British hopes dashed as Dan Evans and Cam Norrie bow out of China Open
All three British hopefuls were knocked out of the China Open this week as Dan Evans and Cam Norrie followed Andy Murray out of the tournament on Friday.
After Murray missed match points to beat Australian Alex De Minaur on Thursday, Evans was beaten by Jannick Sinner and Norrie went down to Andrey Rublev in the Chinese capital.
Evans, still on a high from his Davis Cup heroics a fortnight ago, went down 6-4 6-7 (2) 6-3 to the Italian sixth seed.
After losing the first set, he again trailed in the second and Sinner had the chance to serve for the match.
But Evans showed his fighting spirit and broke back before going on to level the match in the tiebreak.
The decider was finely poised until Sinner struck at 4-3 with a crucial break and managed to serve it out at the second attempt.
British number one Norrie also had a tough contest as he was downed 6-4 1-6 6-4 by fifth seed Andrey Rublev.
