Alexander Zverev wins against Jannik Sinner in an unbelievable 3-hour match
Alexander Zverev won against Jannik Sinner 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5) to reach the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Open on Friday in Monaco.
The rollercoaster of a match went on for three long hours. At the beginning of the first set, Alexander Zverev jumped out to a 4-1 lead and was on track for a smooth first set victory. However, Jannik Sinner fought back and completely turned it around, winning the first set 5-7. Owing to the number of Italians living near Monaco, Jannik Sinner had the firm backing of the crowd.
The second set started with Alexander Zevrev losing his first serve of the set. However, Jannik made some errors with rushed play putting his game completely out of rhythm. It proved critical for Alexander Zevrev as he ended the second set with 6-3.
Both the players displayed brilliant skills in the third set. Jack Sinner pushed through the pain from foot blisters that he suffered during his last match. Zevrev had a 40-15 lead, but he double-faulted, giving the lead back to Jannik Sinner. Sinner started pushing back but gave his serve back when the scores were tied 3-3. Zevrev took the service when he was leading 5-4 but got broken with the set ending in a tiebreak.
The third set ended with both the players tied 5-5. Janik Sinner was leading, with 4-3 with two serves in hand, but eventually, Alexander Zverev fought back twice from a breakdown, emerging as the winner with 7-5.
Zevrev won the match after three hours of marathon play when Janni Sinner netted. Half the tie break points went against serving in the match, which consisted of ten service breaks.
The fifth-ranked Greek Stefanos Tsitispas won against Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain, who defeated Novak Djokovic, knocked out Taylor Fritz of the U.S. 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Alexander Zverev will lock horns with the defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, while Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will go up against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals on 16 April.
