T20 World Cup 2022: Who should replace Bumrah in the World Cup squad, Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar?
Earlier this month, we saw India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja getting ruled out of the World Cup owing to his knee injury, and now adding to the concerns, Jasprit Bumrah
He was one of the prominent names among a four-person pace bowling attack for the T20 World Cup, featuring Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel.
In his absence, India is expected to pick one from Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar to fill up his place, both of whom have been named in the standbys for the marquee tournament.
Deepak Chahar, in the first T20I against South Africa, gave a cracking performance proving his worth, while Mohammed Shami was still out of the series due to being Covid positive.
Team India will move to Australia after finishing this T20I series against South Africa, where they'll get some practice matches and take the final call for playing XI.
Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar will be tested extensively, while favouritism will incline towards Mohammed Shami due to his vast experience playing on Australia's fast pitches.
Ex-chairman of the selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth said, "Mohammed Shami should have been there. You are playing in Australia. Shami can get a bounce in Australia, he has a high-arm action. He can get the ball going away from the left-hander, going into the right-hander. In the first 3 overs, he can get 2-3 wickets. We are playing in Australia, the guy's got the real action, the guy's got bounce, he can bear the moment and he can get on early wickets."
