Virat Kohli is on fire in the T20 World Cup. He smashed back-to-back half-centuries against Pakistan and the Netherlands, both times leading Team India to victory.
On Thursday, the 33-year-old scored an undefeated 62 runs off 44 balls as India defeated the Netherlands by 56 runs. So far in the tournament, he has scored 144 runs in just two matches.
Kohli surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle on the T20 World Cup run scorers list with his stunning effort against the European nation.
The right-handed batter has 989 runs in 23 matches, falling just 28 runs short of matching Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene's record.
Given his recent form, Virat Kohli is also on track to beat Jayawardene's record of 1016 runs in 31 T20 World Cup matches when India takes on South Africa in Perth on Sunday in their third tournament game.
Kohli is only 28 runs away from smashing the record.
