T20 World Cup 2022: Jos Buttler, a captain with convictions and excellent judgement
The game of gentlemen these days is divided into two groups of people. One with a strong belief in the spirit of the game, while others keep the official rules a bit high in their reasoning. England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler has been in the news again for his belief in the game's spirit
Denying the appeal for obstructing the field in a high-intensity game. Jos Buttler avoided controversy on their first game in Australia tour, including the T20I World Cup.
England won the first T20I against Australia in a very close encounter by eight runs. Matthew Wade was turning the game for Australia in death, and England's skipper had a chance to send him back, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to take a wicket that way.
"They asked if I wanted to appeal, and I said 'no'," said Jos Buttler.
He further shared his thought on avoiding any controversy, especially before an important tournament like World Cup, "I've only just got to Australia, so I thought just carry on with the game."
Buttler said he "Didn't really see what happened". He added, "It was hard because I didn't know what I was appealing for," he said. "I could have asked some of the other boys to see if they had a better view but thought I would get on with the game."
This moment raised questions for Jos Buttler if a similar thing also happened in the World Cup.
"Maybe," said Buttler in his post-match press conference when asked if he would have appealed for obstructing the field if it was a T20 World Cup match.
Buttler doesn't believe in Mankad runouts
Before this, Jos Buttler laid his strong response over India Women's runout of Charlie Dean in the third and final England Women vs India Women ODI at Lord's on Saturday, September 24.
When asked if one of his bowlers did something similar, what would he have done? Jos Buttler said, "No, I am calling the batsman back."
He added, "No one wants to see them in the game because they always create such a talking point when it should be about the battle between bat and ball and watching great games of cricket. They always seem to happen at unsavoury times."
