T20 World Cup 2022: Five-star players who will be missed in Australia
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 is now just ten days away from its commencement. The tournament will kick start with the first round between 8 teams. Out of them, four will qualify for the Super 12 round
As all 16 teams named their squad for the mega-tournament, a few names were supposed to be part of this World Cup but will be missed playing on Australian pitches.
Jasprit Bumrah (India)
Team India suffered a major blow just before the T20 World Cup as their leading spearhead Jasprit Bumrah got ruled out of the marquee event dealing with injuries and fitness issues over the last few months.
"I am gutted that I won't be a part of the T20 World Cup this time", said Jasprit Bumrah after being officially ruled out by BCCI from the tournament.
After missing Asia Cup 2022, when he was named back in the squad for the home series against Australia and South Africa, it was a relief for the management and fans; but he eventually got ruled out. He has been a central figure for the bowling line-up and was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the last edition of the World Cup.
The Indian team will immensely miss him on bouncy Australian pitches, which have much to offer pacers like him.
Ravindra Jadeja (India)
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, India's all-format all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's services will also be missed by team India in the tournament. The 33-year-old player suffered a knee injury during the Asia Cup and subsequently got ruled out of the World Cup.
He has been one of the most versatile players that team India could have, irrespective of the format and position to bat or ball. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the previous edition of the World Cup, and now Men in Blue will miss both their top wicket-takers in the tournament.
Jonny Bairstow (England)
England got a massive blow when their in-form batter Jonny Bairstow was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a freak injury he suffered on a golf course in September.
He is expected to stay out of action until 2023 after having undergone surgery for a
dislocated ankle.
Updating about his recovery and return, he said, "One thing is for sure and that is I shall not be partaking in anything more during 2022…however I cannot wait for what 2023 holds!!"
Before the injury, he smashed a hundred in the innings of the rescheduled fifth test match against India. The last edition of the World Cup was a nightmare for the batter as he could score 47 in 6 games, but this edition could have been a perfect redemption if he had been fit to play.
Rassie van der Dusser (South Africa)
South Africa's star middle-order batter Rassie van der Dussen got ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 after he broke his index finger while fielding during the second Test against England in August.
The 33-year-old was the leading run-scorer for the Proteas during the T20 World Cup 2021. In 5 matches, he scored 177 runs at an average of 59, and South Africa will dearly miss his services. His presence, alongside David Miller in the middle, would have made their batting line-up stand out of the box and one of the deadliest combinations of match winners.
Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies)
West Indies star batter Shiron Hetmyer who was initially part of the team's World Cup 2022 squad, will miss the tournament due to a bizarre reason. The power-hitter missed his rescheduled flight to Australia, which was changed from Saturday to Monday due to some family reasons.
After informing the West Indies Director of cricket Jimmy Adams that he won't be able to reach the airport on time, the 2-year-old was replaced by Shamarh Brooks in the World Cup squad.
