New Zealand's first win in this tournament against Australia has all but secured their place in the semi-finals. This team looks excellent in both the batting and bowling departments. It has to be said that fielding also gives the team an edge over other teams.
On the other hand, Pakistan was almost eliminated from the tournament, but luck was on their side. The rise of Shaheen Afridi in the last two matches has been stunning, while the rest of the bowlers are also in a good rhythm. If the front row ignites, this team can't be beaten.
New Zealand and Pakistan have been playing T20I cricket against each other since 2007 and have played 28 T20Is against each other so far. Eight of the 28 matches have been played in the UAE, 15 in New Zealand, and five at a neutral venue.
The first T20I match between the two teams was played in the 2007 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan defeated New Zealand in Newlands. The two teams also met in the last T20I World Cup, with Pakistan recording an easy victory over the Blackcaps at the Sharjah International Stadium.
Kane Williamson has scored the most runs against Pakistan, while Tim Southee has bagged the most wickets. Of the Pakistan players, Babar Azam has scored the most runs against the Kiwis, while Haris Rauf has bagged the most wickets.
The two teams have recently met three times in the tri-series in New Zealand, with Pakistan winning two out of three matches. The closest match between the two teams was played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados during the 2010 ICC T20 World Cup.
New Zealand scored 133 runs in the first innings of that match, and Pakistan scored 132 runs. Pakistan lost the game by just one wicket.
